I have been exploring Shakespeare's language with schools and universities from the UK and all over the world for more than 20 years. 

In my workshops the students become working actors using rehearsal techniques to bring the words to life.

All sessions are planned in consultation with the school and focus on a text or texts chosen by the teacher.  Any play from the Elizabethan / Jacobean period can be covered, not just those by Shakespeare. 

  • KS2 - an exciting and lively introduction to your choice of play.

  • KS3 - a deeper exploration focusing on language, character and key scenes.

  • KS4 - close analysis for students taking GCSE English Literature of Drama.

  • A-level lectures and workshops - an in-depth look at any play from the Elizabethan and Jacobean period.  Ideal for students of  English or Theatre Studies.


    Ideas which I regularly explore in my workshops include:

  • using language to create story, character and atmosphere

  • using rehearsal techniques to bring out key themes

  • how Shakespeare's own actors approached the text

  • the functions of verse and prose

  • soliloquy and scene-work.................and much more

Key Stage 1 Shakespeare

I've recently been introducing children as young as five to Shakespeare through fun drama activities. 
Little ones love to recreate stories like the storm in 'The Tempest', conjure up magic with the witches in 'Macbeth' or to play tricks on Bottom as Puck in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' . 
Shakespeare's magical language spells nothing but fun for even the youngest pupils and can help develop even better literacy skills.
